The Regimental Museum opened in the Keep of Carlisle Castle in 1932 for the benefit of new recruits and visitors to the site and has been in its present location since 1973. This superb medieval Royal Castle, founded in 1092, housed the Barracks used by the Regiment from 1873 as its Regimental Training Depot. The Museum, which is independent and a Registered Charitable Trust, is an important part of the Castle as a visitor attraction managed by English Heritage. Its extensive collections include medals, uniforms, equipment, weapons, silver, medals, art, musical instruments, personal items and campaign relics, a library and extensive archive of documents and photographs, reflecting the Regiment’s role in peace and war...
