What the Museum covers
The Museum covers the history of the following units: The 34th Cumberland Regiment of Foot raised in 1702; 55th Westmorland Regiment of Foot raised in 1755; The Border Regiment 1881 to 1959; The King’s Own Royal Border Regiment 1959-2006;
In 2006 the King’s Own Royal Border Regiment merged with two other infantry regiments from the north-west of England, the King’s Regiment (Liverpool & Manchester) and The Queen’s Lancashire Regiment to form The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment (King’s, Lancashire & Border).
Other units covered include The Royal Cumberland Militia, Royal Westmoreland Light Infantry Militia, volunteer units raised during the Napoleonic Wars 1973-1816, the Cumberland & Westmorland Rifle Volunteers, the Cumberland Artillery and The Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry (also visit www.dalemain.com); and general military history of Cumbria, the home Front in the first and Second World Wars and the Cold War
